Anna Del Zoppo Artist's Statement |

My current
work is an exploration of self-identity and an attempt to reinstate
craft practices, such as sewing, into contemporary art. I believe that
identity is always changing; unfolding and refolding in a continual
process of construction. I hope to convey this in my artmaking, using
the repetitive process of printing lino blocks to rework patterns. Taken
from fabrics that surround me in my everyday life, these patterns represent
who I am at this point in time. They weave the fabric of my identity.
Sewing is a
part of my art practice, a part of who I am. It is a thread passed down
through my family history. I have manipulated the prints using methods
associated with sewing; folding, weaving, patchwork and stitching, in
an attempt to blur the boundary between ‘art’ and ‘craft’.
Like the fabrics
themselves, the prints tell my stories. My memories and experiences
are strengthened through the repetition. Time is refolded and becomes
irrelevant in the representation of my current identity.
“In every
place where art and life meet, textiles are a part of the dialogue.”
