Stephen Phibbs is a visual artist whose contemporary paintings have found a steady stream of interest from academic and art buying circles.

In 2001 he held his first solo exhibition "Other frontiers" at Istral gallery in Woollahra, Sydney.The body of work was a thought provoking series of paintings, that deconstruct the signs and symbols of Australian popular culture.

From 2002 his art practice evolved through seeing the landscape through a multi-dimensional approach. He says" These works are about the metaphysical and physical elements of a site. The relationships and juxtapositions discovered in these chance objects signify multiple options of interpretation, creating simultaneous perspectives depending on the viewer".

2003 saw a successful solo exhibition "Chance objects" at the Cape Gallery, Byron Bay, which show-cased his new multi-dimensional work.

In 2004 he participated in group exhibitions at Lotus Gallery, Surfers Paradise and Maree Mizon Gallery, Sydney.

2005 again group exhibitions at Barebones artspace, Bangalow. Lotus Gallery ,Surfers paradise.

In 2006 Stephen held another solo exhibition "Recent work" at the Cape Gallery. He was selected in a "Emerging artists' touring exhibition of N.S.W regional gallleries and for Feva exhibition. Invited to exhibit at the Salt and Australian PGA exhibitions. Also in 2006 Stephen was identified as an export ready professional artist to receive marketing support through the (VAN) initiative (N.S.W Ministry for the Arts and Austrade).

In 2007 he was selected through a (VAN) Initiative to participate in the ABC documentary series " Painting Australia," aired nationally and in south-east Asia and the U.K. This resulted in representation by the prestigous Shubert gallery, Main Beach, QLD. Also in 2007 Stephen held a solo exhibition ' The year of living dangerously' at Newtown fine art trader.

2008 he held a joint exhibition "Over land and sea" at Artpiece gallery, Mullumbimby. Depicting images of the iconic shipwreck" the Cherry Venture". In 2008 and 2009 he has exhibited in 12 group exhibitions in galleries representing him from Queensland to Victoria.

In May 2009 he was selected for the FEVA exhibition, the premier event on the northen NSW calender.
